Today was my first day back at the HMNS since my last post. Due to winter break and our J-term courses, we have all had to step away from out internships for a few weeks. While I was absolutely in love with the J-term course I took, that being Mindfulness Through Eastern practices, I did miss going to the center every morning.
Today was all about butterfly care! I began with working behind the walls of the center, doing what is called butterfly rescue. This just means capturing the ones who have gone beyond the center and gotten trapped, then returning them to their proper home. I had no idea they could travel this far and get trapped so easily, due to their small size. To release them we picked up one at a time and placed them on a feeder. When they travel so far they are often in search for food, so by placing them here, we help them to not lose their energy so quickly and to help them stay healthy.
After this task was completed I refilled their feeders up in the greenhouse with sugar water. I took a recycled bottle and filled it with one part sugar and three parts water. then filled the feeders up again.
